Amazing Grace

I have had a bit of writer’s block lately. I know, it sounds odd. I usually can write and write, but for the past few weeks I have been stumped on what to write about. Just like you, I can have my ups and downs. I think the weights of the world have been heavy on my heart and I wondered what type of inspiration could I give when I am questioning what I am seeing lately.

And then I heard the lyrics to an old hymn. Amazing Grace. Now, I know you might think this is a religious post. However, The lyrics go beyond the walls of a church, they go beyond the beliefs of an indoctrinated religion, they focus more on what can lead you home.

When Scott heard the song, it took him right back to sitting with his grandma at the piano, playing this song every Sunday as a child.

I thought of the different times in my life I have heard it. Out of the entire lyrics, these are the words that resonated with me.

“Through many dangers, toils and snares

We have already come

T'was Grace that brought us safe thus far

And Grace will lead us home.”

Iler Woods believes that we can all find our Home.

Grace will lead us home. Wherever you identify “Home”, your resting space, your security blanket, your true North will bring you home by what leads you in your heart. It is beyond our control sometimes with the mayhem around us, but coming Home to the people you love, the priorities you hold true, that cannot be taken away from you.

I decided to research the meaning of grace and this is what I found.

There are multiple meanings:

  1. simple elegance or refinement of movement.

  2. courteous goodwill.

  3. generous, free and totally unexpected and undeserved

Unexpected and sometimes undeserved. In my moments when I find that I am weak, something picks me up.

A call from my childhood friend just the other day brought a smile to my face that I didn’t even realize I was needing.

A moment of respite when my girls were toddlers. . . a neighbor brought me dinner after I had been with two sick children for over a week.

As I started to think about these moments, I decided to make a list of times I have felt the power of Grace. Some might not seem that moving, but in the moment it was exactly what I was needing. It reminded me that I have been blessed in so many ways and that my safe haven is grounded in my heart. Home is always in me.

During this spring, Iler Woods wants to focus on what brings us Home. We are excited to start off in April with launching our support for the San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity campaign. Read next week’s post on this amazing campaign! A special product is coming your way to promote how important home is.

We also want to focus on the scents of Home. Ellery Mae Candle Co. is bringing us home to the scents of spring. In our shop, we will have our Iler Wood essentials, along with a Spring Surprise.

Just think: tropical fruits + sugared oranges + fresh lemons + limes + just a hint of exotic mountain greens.

These candles are all soy based and 100% organic. We love collaborating with such an amazing entrepreneur and bringing warmth to your home.

Walk with us as we collaborate yet again, with Wildflour.la to bring the taste of home. We want to pamper you this Mother’s Day. You will want to stay tuned on what we are “cooking up” for an amazing Breakfast in Bed collaboration.

And, how could we forget the nostalgic games we played as kids and watched our grandparents play. Season1: Rustic Live Edge Chess Boards are going live in the Iler Woods Shop. Put away technology and have time to actually play a game with a loved one.

So, although the outside world can be daunting and overwhelming at times, let Grace lead you home. Find the sights, sounds, and smells of that resting spot.

I am certain we can all be touched by Grace this season.

What a sweet way to Honor Mothers this year- get ready for an amazing collaboration with Iler Woods, Wildflour Artisan Sourdough, and Iler Meadows.
